The skin of red grapes contains antioxidants called polyphenols that help fight free radicals.  In the brain the polyphenol, resveratrol, helps protect our neurons and keeps them from dying off as we get older.  Moderation is key.  Having too much wine may have the opposite effect, so stick to just one glass per day.

  • Having a glass of wine each day may slow the progression of heart disease.  Many things can cause a person to develop heart disease, but wine in moderation may help fight it.

Resveratrol in red wine comes to the rescue again.  It can fight inflammation and help prevent blood clots, allowing blood to flow freely.  Too much can do the opposite, making the blood to thin.  So, remember, moderation is important when you want health benefits from drinking wine.

  • Wine can help lower cholesterol.  The antioxidant properties are thought to protect your arteries.  By protecting your arteries, bad cholesterol is flushed out more easily leaving good cholesterol

The polyphenols in red wine are key to helping your body as you age.  Too much alcohol consumption can have the opposite effect.  The daily recommended amount of red wine to get the most health benefit is 1 glass for women and 2 glasses for men.

  • Drink a glass of wine to help with bone density.  As we get older we lose bone density and too much bone loss can lead to osteoporosis.  Women are more likely to develop osteoporosis than men.

It just isn’t fair is it?  Red wine contains silicon which is known to help promote an increase in bone density.  Better than a glass of milk I say.
